I'm Ines and this is my blog. I'm twenty and I currently live in Berlin, Germany. I love music, art and the simple pleasures of life which is basically what this is going to be all about.
I have mixed feelings about Berlin. I live here, it’s my city at the moment and I certainly like it here. Although Cologne will always have a special place in my heart, I guess I’ve had the best times over here so far. However, I dislike people romanticising Berlin and fooling themselves into thinking that only if you live here you can do whatever you like and be whoever you want to be. And while all this pretentious Berlin romanticism is doing my head in, I really like this Tilt-Shift video of the city by pilpop.
Today Vero and me grabbed two pairs of scissors and decided to get a new haircut. I’ve always wanted some kind of sidecut, ever since I cut Janna’s hair that night in Amsterdam, but everytime I made plans to finally do it I failed (Only last weekend my co-worker brought a shaving machine all the way to Bar 25 and guess what? I wasn’t there as I was home taking a nap. Oh well.) It’s kinda funny, the more exciting my life gets and the more I’m doing (more on that later), the more I get bored of myself and, luckily enough, if things are exciting I’m a lot crazier than usual and just generally care less. So I cut my hair and no, I neither broke up with someone, nor am I in love, I was just bored.
Some more sunny days in the city, accidentally in panorama mode again. Today we’re having another barbeque in the park so I’m off to prepare some food!
Got my first roll of film from Berlin developed today - a mix of nights out with various people. Reminds me of how important it is to always take photos to capture the good times. More to come soon!
I re-watched this film the other night. I like it although it leaves out the whole background of the story and only focuses on drugs, desperation and David Bowie (which is not a bad combination either).
Some older photos from Berlin and Cologne about two weeks ago. The boys getting ready for their gig:
(I have no clue who took this photo of me and I look well scared. The girl in the picture above is Josie who I met for some nice Berlin breakfast, picture below is The Cinematics in Cologne.)
Got my photos from Paris developed. I accidentally switched my camera to panorama mode at some point but they still turned out quite nice.
(This is Zazou, my friend’s brother. He’s only 9 but he’s already a ladykiller and he will have the world at his feet one day. Above you also see some shots from our pool party, the amazing Galeries Lafayette at night and the big wheel in the city centre.)
I watched Trainspotting* again the other night and having a friend reading out my “Choose life” poster in Scottish accent this morning made me want to re-read Irvine Welsh (which I’m going to do tonight).
I absolutely love Disney. There’s nothing better than being in bed late at night watching old Disney classics. I already wrote about this before, my favourite animated Disney movie was “Robin Hood”. I wanted to be brave like Robin and charming like Maid Marian.
“Are we good guys or bad guys? You know. I mean, uh, our robbin’ the rich to feed the poor.” - “Rob? That’s a naughty word. We never rob. We just… sort of borrow a bit from those who can afford it.”
This is me. I barely wear colours because they just don’t suit me. People have tried to talk me into trying purple or green (as “it matches my hair”) or pastel colours (as “I’m a spring type”) but nothing worked. I sticked to black and I probably will for the rest of my life unless something magical happens that drags me away from the black.
I’m really not a fashion person, I don’t care about designers or fashion weeks, I just like to see what people wear and get inspired. Most of the time I don’t really give a fuck about what I pull out of my drawer each morning but it’s interesting to think about how my clothes reflect who I am. And how to express myself through what I wear. How to find out who you are and make the most of yourself, that sort of thing.
Every woman is a rebel, and usually in wild revolt against herself. - Oscar Wilde
Youth is the time to go flashing from one end of the world to the other… to try the manners of different nations; to hear the chimes at midnight; to see the sunrise in town and country; to be converted at a revival; to circumnavigate the metaphysics, write halting verses, run a mile to see a fire, and wait all day long in the theatre to applaud Hernani. - Robert Louis Stevenson

I found this on Tumblr and it definitely made my Sunday. It’s so sweet, naïve and heart-warming, yet so true and another reminder that we should see the world through children’s eyes more often.
Some more stuff I love. Never thought it’d feel so good to just be, well, inspired. Inspired to do… whatever. That’s not really the point.
That’s what’s so wonderful about being young, there are no mistakes, only research.
“There’s no use in trying,” said Alice; “one can’t believe in impossible things.” “I dare say you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

I love pretty pictures and I’ve been tumblr-ing a lot lately. It’s pretty inspiring if you dig your way through the masses and masses of photos, quotes and re-re-re-re-bloggings. Here are some of my photo favourites:

Some of the most amazing oil paintings (!) I’ve seen in a long time. They all create their very own and special atmosphere and feature expressive colours and beautiful tatooed girls.
Chandeliers made of unicorns, cupcakes, and candies…yum, yum. The artist responsible for this kind of creative sweet indulgence is L.A. native (…), Natalia Fabia. (…) Her oil paintings feature a cast of pretty women reveling in moments of both reality-based and fantastical pleasure.
I usually watch a lot of crap at night, preferably trashy films on even trashier channels. And a few nights ago when I was checking SuperRTL for funny zombie remakes or shark films, I came across “Desperately Seeking Susan” starring Madonna and Rosanna Arquette. The story wasn’t exactly brilliant but I loved the outfits.
I’m not so much of a fashion person but together with my newly discovered love for Polyvore and inspired by this post, I re-created some of the amazing 80ies styles. Hard to believe this was actually Madonna.
Today I moved my blog to a new server. I should have done that a lot earlier but I was always too lazy to update to one of the new hosting packages (my old one from back in 2004 only had 50MB web space). Now I have 2GB (which is still not a lot for today’s standards) and I still need to figure out what to do with it.
I also started a new project, got back to designing some random stuff and re-discovered my love for Helvetica. Well, it’s become more of a slight obsession.
“It’s air, you know. It’s just there. There’s no choice. You have to breathe, so you have to use Helvetica.”
“You can say, ‘I love you,’ in Helvetica. And you can say it with Helvetica Extra Light if you want to be really fancy. Or you can say it with the Extra Bold if it’s really intensive and passionate, you know, and it might work.”
It’s Easter Season so we all have to wear bunny costumes at work. Ears plus tail. It’s fun but looks ridiculous, I got the feeling the customers definitely do take us less seriously now.
The tail perfectly matches my white pinafore and white shoes (not on the picture). Still, the people are staring at us, thinking we’re attempting to be proper Playboy bunnies.
On wednesday I went shopping for new shoes and came home with a new pair of boots which I only bought because it was on sale for € 9,95 (the original price was € 99,95, ha!) They forgot to remove the original big price tag and it took me some time to realise why people in the tram were staring at me and my huge shoe box. Hello recession!
New lace-up boots. Doc Martens style. I’ve always wanted Doc Martens, although everyone kept telling me I would end up looking too punk and all. Or Gothic, considering my black-on-black-on-black plus leather jacket clothing style.
To be honest, I don’t want to look like a Goth indeed, but Punk is actually quite fashionable. Take Sid and Nancy!
